November 2008 Networth (-11.5%)
Today is the end of the month of November. As mentioned, I will start updating my networth monthly to keep track of my developments. This will be my first post on its update. As of now, there’s still no basis for comparison so I will use the original principal amount for investments and for cash position, the basis will be the month-end cash position for the previous month of October.
So again, networth is simply defined as: ASSETS - LIABILITIES = NETWORTH
Our aim is to increase networth by increasing assets and decreasing liabilities.
ASSETS (-8.5%)
Cash (+9.7%) - I was able to save 48% on my gross pay for the month of November. We already received our 13th month pay and I saved 69% of it. Aside from that, a small amount of interest from the bank was also credited.
Investments:
BPI Equity Fund (-29.5%) - I opened this account on the first quarter of this year. And since stocks were hardly hit by the global financial crisis, it was suffering a heavy loss as of this date.
Metrobank Equity Fund (-40.9%) - I opened this account July of last year. It was the time when the stock market was booming and I remembered that the index was around the level of 3,500 at that time. Also, a big loss as of now.
Sun Life Equity Fund (+0.52%) - I opened this account late 2006. I started with a bond fund and then later on transferred it into an equity fund. I already received stock dividends twice in the form of additional shares annually since then.
Stock Investments (-35.8%) - This was the riskiest of all my investments since it was direct stock investments. I first started trading stocks last September of this year. Unfortunately, as mentioned, the stock market was hardly hit by the global financial crisis.
All in all, the effect of the increase in the cash position and the heavy losses that my investments incurred brought an overall loss of assets declining 8.5%.
LIABILITIES (-76%)
Credit Card Bills (-76%) - You may be surprised by the figure but it was actually true. I already received a full refund of the airplane fare that I paid last September. I was supposedly going to Macau together with a friend to take a vacation when the flight was cancelled. Luckily, the amount credited was more than my outstanding balance last month.
All in all, my networth for the month-end of November was down by 11.5%. I am hoping that the stock market will start to go up again since I was heavily invested into it.
