As an investor, you keep on asking, what’s the best investment? What could be that investment that could give me the best returns for my money? Is it real estate? Or stocks? How about mutual funds?

For me the best investment is an investment to yourself. Why? It’s because without you working, you won’t generate income. Yourself is the most important of all investments and so you must invest in yourself in order to be the best wherever you are.

So how can you invest in yourself?

Invest in your confidence. A lot of people lack self-esteem and the confidence to themselves. I am guilty of this low self-esteem before. I used to be a shy type of person. Lack of self confidence won’t bring you to anything. It will lead you to back out from various opportunities that are opening its doors for you.

Personally, you might laugh, but I enrolled myself into a runway modeling workshop to increase my self-confidence. We were taught on how to walk the catwalk and to pose. I was able to join 2 fashion shows conducted by the modeling agency. I was able to find some new friends and models in the process. I got one simple modeling project after that. Aside from it, I also enrolled myself in various acting workshops. I developed my self-esteem in the process.

Some friends before laughed at me. They were very skeptical why I invested in that kind of workshop. Why didn’t I just invest the money to some further education like seminars? And they asked me if I have ambitions to enter show business. I said: “I don’t have goals of becoming a star.” It’s just one of my interests for diversification and I see that it’s also a way to boost my self-esteem to better interact with other people.

Invest in your education. Education is also a main investment to yourself. In my pursuit for excellence, I started to educate myself not only to my field of study before in college which was Mathematics but also to other ways of learning. As a finance blogger, I was able to educate myself when it comes to personal finance by reading the teachings of the famous Robert Kiyosaki. Since then, I started to broaden my studies to investments like stocks, mutual funds, and unit investment trust funds and to other topics such as entrepreneurship, finance and self-motivation. In the process, I was able to invest my own money generating some income. And I can now speak and communicate myself more when attending business meetings.

Invest in your health. There’s a saying that health is wealth. I would rather choose to be not wealthy than to be filthy rich with a lot of ailments. Definitely, you won’t get to enjoy all those that you have. I started to enroll myself in Golds Gym. I admit nowadays I seldom go to it because of the heavy workload that I have in my job. But I still try my best to go there whenever I am available. Added to that, I always drink vitamins. As they say, prevention is better than cure.

Invest in your network of friends. Your networks or contacts are definitely important. As they say, no man is an island. In order to expand my network of friends and contacts, I started to blog, attend blogging events and join some yahoo groups where I met some business minded people. In the process of it, I was able to gain not only friends and contacts but also ideas and insights from them.

Invest in your spiritual needs. I believe that there is always that Supreme Being out there who supervises us always. I don’t forget to thank Him always for all the blessings. And I always believe in the golden rule of Karma that says: “Do unto others what you want others to do unto you.”

How about you? What are the things that you invested in yourself?
