First you have to define the type of exit (i.e. death/sickness or split). Then there's a buy/sell agreement that can explain the details. I usually have a lawyer or one of my business partners to create these.

What are some of the common exit strategies in a business partnership? I would like to learn more about it. I assume there is a division of all proceeds just in case the business is put into sale that is pro-rated to the capital infused by each partner?

One of my companies is a partnership. If you haven't done it before, there are many unforeseeable things that could cause friction between partners. I highly recommend documenting an exit strategy, no matter how close you think you are with your partner.
