I just watched the Green Lantern Movie a while ago. While the movie generated a lot of negative reviews based on the feedback of most people, I found it attractive especially in terms of the concept of Will Power representing the Green Lantern Corps who each wear a ring enabling them to create anything their mind can imagine versus Fear representing Parallax.
We always hear that as humans, we are weak. As the song “Human” says in its lyrics: ‘human, born to make mistakes’. However, what’s fascinating in the Green Lantern movie is that, of all the Green Lanterns Corps, a human by the name of Hal Jordan portrayed by Ryan Reynolds was the only one who successfully defeated Parallax.

Will Power
As humans, we are all given the freedom of the will. It’s up to us what we want to do. We maybe dictated sometimes but it’s ultimately us who will act on what we want.
If harnessed, will power can bring us to greater heights of success. As the commercial of Pharmaton says: “What your mind conceives, your body can achieve. It’s the mindset, the discipline and determination to achieve what we want.
We have witnessed a lot of examples how will power works. A janitor turned millionaire. The rags to riches success stories of various entrepreneurs. Even the success story of Roselle Ambubuyog who, despite her disability of being totally blind, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree of BS Mathematics at Ateneo de Manila University. She was also declared as the Valedictorian of the Year.
Another concrete example of will power which we can all probably relate is when it comes to athletics, particularly marathon. At the start of the game, runners usually conditions their mind. An athlete with a great will power says: “I CAN DO IT”. There is this tremendous amount of will power in his mind and this pushes his body to compete and run at his own best to emerge as a winner of the race.
His will power demands his body to perform more than it could really give. It was the soul driving the body. The power was not in the muscles but it was in the will. You will notice that at the end of the race, the will let up and the body will collapse.
As humans, we are social animals. We need each other in order to co-exist. The same is true for will power. We need encouragement. We need mentors. We need inspirations. In the movie, the Green Lantern, Hal’s driving force for his will power was his childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris portrayed by Blake Lively.
FEAR
Fear is always the hindrance to every endeavor. It prevents us to achieve what we want to achieve. It serves as a block towards discovering what we really are capable of. Fear is everywhere. Fear of losing money in investing. Fear of failure to try to go into business. Fear of what people will tell you. Fear of rejection. All these fears give Parallax his energy in the movie Green Lantern – he eats people who exhibits fear.
WILL POWER vs. FEAR
It’s will power vs. fear – green vs. yellow and Green Lantern Corps vs. Parallax in the movie Green Lantern. Will power is the ultimate strength to conquer your fears. Many people have a lot of fears yet some managed to become successful in conquering it because of their will power.
“I WILL do today what other people WON’T so that I CAN have tomorrow what other people CAN’T”. This powerful quote exhibits the compare and contrast between will power vs. fear. You must conquer your fear with will power. You must WILL to do what it takes for you to HAVE the tomorrow that you deserves.
