This article is a bit late because Steve Jobs died few days ago. He has always been the visionary man behind the success of Apple, Inc. In fact, during his leadership, Apple’s stock (AAPL) went up from $5 in September of 1997 where he assumed the position of interim CEO after he was to the current price of $370. That’s 7300% or equivalently, 521.4% per year. Can you imagine how much did you gain if you invested in Apple’s stock (AAPL) way back 1997?
Without Steve Jobs, there would be no Macs, ipods, iphones, and ipads now. He transformed Apple to become the world’s most valued and largest technology company with a current market capitalization of about $342.84 billion.

Drawing from some of the most pivotal points in his life, Steve Jobs told three main stories of his life (Connecting the Dots, Love and Loss, and Death) and urged graduates to pursue their dreams and see the opportunities in life’s setbacks — including death itself — at Stanford University’s 114th Commencement on June 12, 2005. Stay hungry! Stay foolish! It’s one of the most inspiring speeches I’ve ever heard.
Below are some of my personal favorite Steve Jobs quotes:
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards, so you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever — because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the difference.”
“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”
“I was worth over $1,000,000 when I was 23, and over $10,000,000 when I was 24, and over $100,000,000 when I was 25, and it wasn’t that important because I never did it for the money.”
“Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.”
“Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.”
“Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.”
“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”
“Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.”
“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love.”
“I want to put a ding in the universe.”

I like the quote about cemetery and bed time gratitude.
